National Senior Independence Month: Adult Day and Aging at Home
Each February, National Senior Independence Month invites us to reflect on what independence really means for older adults. True independence isn't about doing everything alone: it's about choice, dignity, and connection. Adult day programs play a crucial role in supporting aging in place by providing structure without confinement, social engagement without loss of privacy, and care without isolation. They help older adults maintain functional independence while offering families critical respite from caregiving demands. This post explores how community-based support extends independence, why caregiver relief is foundational to aging at home, and how we can rethink independence as a community outcome rather than individual isolation.
